Valentino Gets The Master's Imprimatur

Paris – Designers do not always praise - especially in public - their successors, so the sight of Valentino Garavani standing and applauding the spring 2011 collection in Paris on Tuesday, Oct. 5, of the brand he founded, was the most talked about moment in a finely staged and suitably graceful expression of contemporary fashion.

Under Piero Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri, Valentino's ultimate successors, the house has continued to create feminine clothes that look obviously classy and very respectable, though the founder's emphasis on posh has been replaced with an ever so faint perversity.

"Gracefulness with a dark edge," was Piccioli's summary of the collection, shown on an elongated U-shaped catwalk in Halle Freyssinet, a disused railway depot in east Paris.

The dark edge came in semi-sheer tops with vertical ruffles, paired with leather hot pants, or more of less see-through chiffon blouses, where even several layers of fabric and abstract shards of tulle still kept the look pretty transparent. Flared lace tulip cuffs, shoulders embellished with ribbon or belts with tiny fabric bows all added to the sense of crisp femininity.

Though the key to the show was the striking series of lace cocktail dresses, each one more refined that the next, cut and finished with a more sass than those from the period when Valentino was himself the designer of the brand. The eyes of a huge squadron of department store buyers sitting front row practically glimmered at the wealth of choice.

The design duo even showed shiny denim mini suits, something of a rarity for a tony house like Valentino, and instead of the signature sinful red, sent out three rose-hued dresses, one in particular with a miniature cloak that was utterly charming.

Backstage, when asked for his thoughts on the show, Valentino, who retired three years ago, modestly replied: "Very elegant, pretty and feminine. I enjoyed it a lot, and enjoyed applauding the finale. That said, it was, after all, a homage to myself."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck joins 'Good Morning America'

LOS ANGELES – Elisabeth Hasselbeck is taking some time to appear on more than just "The View."

ABC announced Thursday that Hasselbeck is joining "Good Morning America" as a contributor, covering "hot-button family, lifestyle and child-rearing issues." The network said her first report, looking at the growing trend of parents and kids getting tattoos together, will air Monday. She said she was "thrilled" to explore issues facing parents and children.

Hasselbeck joined "The View" as a co-host in 2003.

Fan told to stay away from Madonna's NYC home

NEW YORK – He might want to tell Madonna he's crazy for her, but a fan who was arrested while proclaiming his love near her New York City apartment is being told to stay at least 10 blocks away.

A judge made that a condition as he set bail at $20,000 on Friday for Robert Linhart.
The 59-year-old retired firefighter was arrested last month. Authorities say he scrawled messages of adoration for the "Crazy for You" and "Material Girl" singer outside her apartment building near Manhattan's Central Park.

Linhart's lawyer has said the messages weren't threatening — just signs of being a fan.
A grand jury declined to indict Linhart on graffiti charges. He pleaded not guilty Friday to resisting arrest and weapons possession. Authorities have said he had a knife and ice pick.

Monument unveiled to mark John Lennon's birthday

John Lennon’s first wife Cynthia and son Julian have unveiled a monument in Liverpool to mark the legendary musician’s 70th birthday.

The statue has been built to act as a shrine for thousands of fans who want to pay tribute to the Beatle in his home city, while officials say it is also designed to be a monument for peace.

Indeed, the area of the park, known as Strawberry Fields, has long been considered a site of pilgrimage for followers of the talented singer songwriter.

Cynthia, 71, who was married to Lennon for six years, said that she hoped the statue would bring joy to his followers.

"I think it's time to celebrate, which is what we're doing. Think about [anything in] his life that was positive and just enjoy that. Enjoy the joy that he had and that we all have from his music,” she added.

She then joined son Julian and the 2,000-strong crowd in joining hands and singing Lennon's anthem ‘Give Peace A Chance’.

Originally, the statue was created by 19-year-old US artist Lauren Voiers and commissioned by the Global Peace

Johnny Depp appears at school assembly as Captain Jack Sparrow

Finally, cold, hard proof of two things: one, that kids today have it better than ever, and two, that Johnny Depp is a proper, gold-plated, limited-edition dude.

How many assemblies when you were at school ended with the entrance of a Hollywood star? How many were anything but a thing to be sat through, crosslegged on an over-waxed floor, punctuated with hymns projected on a magnolia wall? A time, often, to plait the hair of the girl in front or to scratch the scabs off a grazed knee.

Last week, however, pupils at a school in south-east London experienced the kind of assembly they didn't have in my day.

Students were shepherded quickly into the gym as two cars with blacked-out windows parked in the playground, where a passerby reported hearing "screams of joy" as Depp, in full, leathery, dreadlocked, swaggering costume, entered the building, in response to a plea from nine-year-old Beatrice Delap.

"Captain Jack Sparrow," she'd written, in a note delivered to the Pirates of the Caribbean set, filming down the road at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. "At Meridian primary school, we are a bunch of budding young pirates and we were having a bit of trouble mutinying against the teachers and we'd love if you could come and help."

"He called me down and gave me a hug," Beatrice breathlessly told journalists after the actors had left. Then: "He said the pirates were going to take over the school and only eat candy and our teeth would turn black and fall out, but he said we shouldn't mutiny against the teachers because there were police outside and we might get into trouble."

If my heart swelled any more I'd collapse. On Twitter, though, comedian David Schneider imagined an alternative headline for the next day's papers: "Little girl's letter to Johnny Depp backfires," he wrote, "as Somali pirates take over school."

Susan Boyle's upcoming "Gift" already a best-seller

NEW YORK - Susan Boyle announced the November 9 release of her second album, "The Gift," only three days ago, but already the set has shot to No. 1 on Amazon's Bestsellers chart based on pre-order sales.

The singer's sophomore effort reached the top spot Wednesday in its second day as a pre-order, officially kicking off what Amazon director of music Craig Pape described as "the season of Susan" for the online retailer.

"It's pretty significantly No. 1," said Pape, who would not reveal specific sales figures but said that the volume of pre-orders has exceeded his expectations. "The Gift" has leapfrogged fourth-quarter efforts by Taylor Swift, Eric Clapton and Neil Young on the Bestsellers tally, with only pre-orders of Bob Dylan's "The Witmark Demos" coming close to Boyle's sales, according to Pape.

"It's a relative ranking, and a lot of it depends on the release schedule and what else is in the market," said Pape. "But looking at this list, you can see that it's a pretty strong slate of releases, so it's a non-trivial position to take the top slot during this release period."

Boyle is no stranger to Amazon's Bestsellers chart: her 2009 debut, "I Dreamed a Dream," broke records as Amazon Music's largest CD pre-order ever before it moved 3.8 million U.S. copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is still unclear whether "The Gift" will rival the pre-order figures of "Dream," considering that "the pre-order window for this record is shorter" than that of the first album, Pape said.

As announced Tuesday, "The Gift" is set for release on SYCO/Columbia Records and will include Boyle's take on Christmas classics "O Holy Night" and "The First Noel" as well as performances of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." The album is displayed at the top of Amazon Music's main page with link to the pre-order and to Susan Boyle's artist page. Apple's iTunes store also prominently features "The Gift," and the album sits at No. 2 on Barnes & Noble's music bestsellers list.

"I personally expect to see it in that top slot for quite a while," said Pape. "Through street date and beyond, through Christmas, sales should stay very strong."

Posh Beckham 'furious'

Victoria Beckham has revealed to family and friends her "rage and humiliation" over a prostitutes' claims she had an affair with husband David.

Beckham, who has three children with the soccer superstar, told UK-based relatives the claims from sex worker Irma Nici had wrecked her life in America, The Sun newspaper reports.

"She has even said she wants to come home," an unnamed friend was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

"Considering the hooker made everything up, Victoria sees it as extremely unfair."

On Friday lawyers for David Beckham filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against In Touch magazine and its publisher Bauer Publishing Company LP for libel, slander and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The suit also names 26-year-old Nici, who is quoted as making the allegations.

UK tabloid News of the World says Beckham wants to sue for $26 million, accusing Nici and the magazine of damaging the soccer star's reputation and causing him "mental anguish".

The magazine alleged the former England football captain slept with the $10,000 a night escort in a New York hotel room in 2007 and a month later in London.

Nici claims she hired a second woman to join her in the New York liaison, which allegedly took place just after Beckham joined the LA Galaxy team.

A spokesperson for Beckham has described the claims as "utter nonsense".

This is not the first cheating scandal to engulf the soccer star.

In 2004, his personal assistant, Rebecca Loos, claimed that they had had an affair. He denied the allegations.

Lindsay Lohan bails out of jail

Troubled US starlet Lindsay Lohan has bailed out of jail where she spent only about 15 hours for failing another court-ordered drug test, the Los Angeles county sheriff's office says.

The 24-year-old was led from a court in handcuffs on Friday morning - the third time in as many years - after Judge Elden Fox of the Beverly Hills Superior Court found evidence Lohan was guilty of substance abuse.

Fox denied bail to Lohan after she tested positive for cocaine in a court-ordered test, but was later reversed by a superior who set bail at $US300,000 ($A312,728).

After the bail was posted Lohan was released late Friday night from the Century Regional Detention Facility in the Lynwood suburb of Los Angeles, a sheriff's spokesman said.

She is due back in court on October 22 to determine whether she violated her probation from an earlier sentence by testing positive for drugs. Lohan must also wear an ankle bracelet that will monitor her blood alcohol content.

Lohan was sentenced on July 6 to serve 90 days in jail and another 90 days in rehab for violating her probation in a drunk-driving case. But due to jail overcrowding, she served just 13 days before being freed to the detox facility.

In 2007 she spent just 84 minutes in jail after police arrested her twice for cocaine possession while driving - in one instance crashing her Mercedes-Benz into a tree.

Last week she admitted having failed a drugs test after the celebrity website TMZ and People Magazine said she had tested positive for cocaine use, prompting judge Fox to summon her back for Friday's court hearing.

A queen of Hollywood nights and a favorite target of the paparazzi, the former Disney child star was once considered one of the most promising actresses of her generation.

But Lohan's career has dipped many times since 2005 amid legal woes, stops in rehab and cinematic flops.

In 2008 the Parent Trap star received two Razzie Awards, the satirical prizes presented to Hollywood's worst acting performances.

In a Twitter post admitting the failed drugs test last week, Lohan said she was a "work in progress."

"This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I'm prepared to face the consequences.... Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away overnight," she said.

"I am testing every single day and doing what I must do to prevent any mishaps in the future."

Lohan settles 'Lindsay' ad case

Lindsay Lohan has settled a court battle over a TV commercial, which she says parodied her life for profit.

The Mean Girls star, who is facing 30 days behind bars after violating her probation by failing two random drug tests last week, has something to smile about after reaching an agreement with advertising bosses at financial firm E-Trade.

The company's 2010 Super Bowl ad, which featured a baby girl called Lindsay, upset the star because her namesake was portrayed as a boyfriend stealer and a "milkaholic".

Her legal team filed a $US100 million ($A105.71 million) lawsuit against the company, accusing firm executives of exploiting their client's famous first name and public persona without permission, insisting the use of the name Lindsay was a direct reference to Lohan.

E-Trade chiefs hit back and filed a motion to have the case dismissed, saying there were hundreds of thousands of women in the US with the same first name.

Jean quits Haiti politics

Wyclef Jean has officially ended his bid for Haiti's presidency.

A statement sent on Tuesday by his publicist says the singer is leaving Haitian politics to promote a new album.

Jean's candidacy ended last month when the Caribbean country's eight-member provisional electoral council left him and more than a dozen other hopefuls off the ballot. Nineteen candidates were approved.

No official reasons were given for the exclusions. Jean is presumed not to have met constitutional requirements including living in Haiti. He lives in New Jersey in the US.

The announcement ends speculation the singer would contest the disqualification, though the council does not allow appeals.

The election is slated for November 28.

Paris Hilton stopped from entering Japan

Japanese officials delayed Paris Hilton at Narita International Airport while they decide whether she will be admitted to the country after pleading guilty to a drug charge in Las Vegas.

The 29-year-old celebrity was stopped by immigration authorities upon her arrival in Japan on Tuesday, one day after her plea, according to an e-mailed statement by Hilton's representative, Dawn Miller.

Hilton was scheduled to appear at a news conference in Tokyo on Wednesday to promote her fashion and fragrance lines, but that appearance was cancelled.

Immigration authorities questioned Hilton "for undisclosed reasons", and she was not allowed to enter the country, Hidekazu Akai, an immigration official at Narita, said early on Wednesday.

The officials adjourned questioning and asked Hilton to stay at a hotel in the airport so they could continue immigration procedures on Wednesday, Kyodo News agency reported. The front desk at her hotel said calls to her room could not be connected.

Under Japanese law, immigration authorities are empowered to deny entry to those who have been convicted of drug-related offences.

Officials at the US Embassy in Tokyo declined to comment.

Paris Hilton in Cocaine Charges

Luck wasn't on Paris Hilton's side this weekend in Sin City, when Las Vegas police pulled over the car she was in just before midnight and allegedly found a white powder in her purse that, upon testing, proved to be cocaine. The celebutante was then arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine, and booked into the Clark County detention center, according to ABC News. She was soon released on bail.

The socialite, 29, was in the passenger seat of a car driven by a male thought to be her boyfriend, nightclub owner Cy Waits.

An eyewitness at the happy couple's wedding said, "Mike held his arm around Hilary for most of the romantic ceremony, and they both looked extremely happy." "At last, Rob is happy," the singer's father, Pete Conway, told Britain's News of the World. "That's what you want for your kids and this is the happiest I've seen him. Ayda is so beautiful and so delightful and so lovely and just so right for him. They are brilliant together."

Lindsay Lohan's Friends Are Worried About Her Recovery

Photographers caught the first glimpse of Lindsay Lohan Wednesday since getting out of rehab early -- but the troubled starlet wasn't too happy about the aggressive tactics they used to get the shot. So, she's taken to her Twitter to share her frustrations.

"Clearly.. Paparazzi shouldn't be allowed to take pictures or video while someone's driving or at a stop light," she Twittered on Thursday. "4every1's sake #trafficpolice."

But some of Lohan's friends seem to think she should worry less about the paparazzi's actions and more about her own. "Lindsay says she's determined to stay sober and focus on work," a source close to the star told People. "(But) it's too soon to tell what will happen. We've seen these moments of 'purity' before, but as soon as she gets a taste of the nightlife and the drama, she usually falls back into old habits fast."

Another alleged friend of the 24-year-old star also talked to People about his concerns. "She doesn't like staying put and she doesn't like being bored," the source said. "She needs to be constantly stimulated; it's not uncommon for her to be up texting from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. The people in her life are on a constant roller coaster. Deep down, I think she knows she's in crisis. But she continues to make bad decisions. She still thinks she can get away with anything, get out of anything, make excuses."

But, others think Lohan, who was released early from jail and rehab (after serving 13 days of a 90-day sentence in jail and just 23 days at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Hospital), will be just fine. Her costars in the upcoming movie Machete had nothing but glowing things to say about the star at the film's premiere and her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holley agrees that she's on the right path. "She is serious about her sobriety," Holley told reporters. "This is a new beginning for Lindsay Lohan."

One person who has always defended the actress' actions (and often denied that Lindsay even has a problem) is her mother Dina Lohan. Dina seems to think her daughter, who is now undergoing psychotherapy, outpatient treatment and random drug testing, is doing just fine. "She's grown up considerably," she said.

School Is in Session for Michael Jackson's Kids

Michael Jackson's eldest children, 13-year-old Prince and 12-year-old Paris, will soon experience what so many kids are used to: the first day of school.

According to Access Hollywood, the siblings will be attending The Buckley School in the San Fernando Valley starting on Wednesday. The private school (where the tuition ranges from $25,769 to $29,010 per student per year) has some other famous alums, including Kim Kardashian, Alyssa Milano, Matthew Perry, Rashida Jones, Laura Dern, Nicolette Sheridan, and Paris and Nicky Hilton.

While TMZ.com reports that Prince and Paris were anxious to go to school (a source close to the family says Prince wanted to have "a social experience"), Jackson's youngest child, 8-year-old Blanket, will continue to be home schooled.

Their grandmother Katherine Jackson, who has full custody of the children, allegedly feels that Blanket is too young to venture out in the world and won't attend private school just yet. "The children are seemingly as normal as normal can be under pretty extraordinary circumstances," Katherine's lawyer told The Huffington Post.

Roberts will also attend the film fest to promote her latest movie "Eat Pray Love" by US director Ryan Murphy and co-starring Spanish actor Javier Bardem, which is an official entry in the competition.

"Eat Pray Love", based on a novel of that name by Elizabeth Gilbert, is the story of a recent divorcee, played by Roberts, who travels to Italy, India and Bali, rediscovering through each place her inner peace.

The 42-year-old Roberts came to fame for her role in the 1990 movie "Pretty Woman" and spent a decade becoming one of Hollywood's favourite box office draws and highest paid actresses.

She won an Oscar for best actress in 2001 for "Erin Brockovich".

In recent years she has taken some time off from acting to get married and give birth to three children.

She will receive the award for her film career on September 20.

Previous winners since 1987 have included British actor Sir Ian McKellen, US actors Glenn Ford and Bette Davis, and US directors Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen.

The San Sebastian International Film Festival runs from September 17 to 25.

Hollywood diplomacy in France shows up Sarkozy

PARIS (AFP) - – "Rocky, Rocky," yelled the crowd, as Sylvester Stallone mimed uppercuts on the red carpet. This was not Hollywood, however, but a Paris suburb more used to riot police than to movie stars.

The same day, another visit took place in the eastern city of Grenoble, where Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux inaugurated a special police unit to secure its run-down housing estates after recent gunfights and riots.

For some, the contrast reveals a failure in the government's approach to minorities in the troubled outskirts of its cities, the "banlieue".

Stallone handed out autographs, while Hortefeux -- the top general in President Nicolas Sarkozy's newly-declared "war on crime" -- delivered non-lethal riot guns and bullet-proof shields to local police.

"It's empowering for people to see Hollywood stars visit these areas that are lashed by the politicians," said Rokhaya Diallo, 32, the leader of an anti-racism association, Les Indivisibles, after Stallone's visit.

"I find it a shame that on the one hand there are people who want to bring a power hose to clean the banlieue, who say the people there are 'scum', and on the other there are people who bring Hollywood stars," Diallo told AFP, quoting incendiary statements Sarkozy made in 2005.

Stallone, the star of "Rocky" and "Rambo", appearing in Rosny-Sous-Bois on the outskirts Paris, was the third all-American action hero to venture into the banlieue this year.

John Travolta attended a Rosny premiere in February, and Samuel L. Jackson, his co-star in "Pulp Fiction", met youngsters in nearby Bondy in April.

Jackson's visit, with an inspirational speech about his upbringing as a black American child in the days of racial segregation, stood out.

He was accompanied by the man who invited him: former Hollywood executive Charles Rivkin, who is now the United States' ambassador to France.

Diallo said she has met Rivkin several times in neighbourhoods such as La Courneuve -- a trouble spot where Sarkozy, interior minister at the time, made headlines in 2005 by vowing to "clean it out with a power hose."

Jackson's visit -- unlike Stallone's or Travolta's -- was an official part of a wide American political networking drive, encompassing art projects, debates and a long-running exchange programme.

Diallo was among 30 local figures taken to tour the United States this year on a US-funded project for budding French leaders in their 30s, a programme whose past participants include Sarkozy himself.

The US activities in France have intensified in recent years as part of efforts to reach out to Muslims since the September 11, 2001 attacks, and in particular since Rivkin's appointment by Obama last year.

Tensions have long run high between French police and locals living in deprived districts where young people and immigrants struggle to find work, notably during an explosion of riots in late 2005.

On that sensitive issue, supporters of the US programmes draw inspiration from America's own racial history.

"The United States have substantial experience in all matters of social integration," said a spokeswoman for the French urban policy ministry.

US diplomats "have understood that in these neighbourhoods we have talented young people -- the young people who are making the France of tomorrow," said the spokeswoman, who asked not to be named.

With critics questioning national leaders' own commitment to the banlieues, she insisted that the embassy's project complemented similar efforts by the French government, including housing, jobs and art projects.

US officials are at pains meanwhile to avoid the sense that they are preaching to France.

"We seek to engage with as wide a spectrum of French society as possible," said Paul Patin, a spokesman for the Paris embassy.

"Other countries can learn from the American experience, just as we in the USA can learn things from the French."

Nordine Nabili, head of a journalism school in Bondy in regular contact with the US embassy, said US initiatives had ruffled the feathers of some French officials, though none have complained publicly.

"For once we're going out of the set framework: the elite schools that reproduce French society," he said. "The French have the feeling the Americans are coming to play in their back yard. It's a bit of a thorn in their side."

The ministry spokeswoman acknowledged that "at first there were questions about what the embassy's aims were, what it wanted to do. But I think now it is considered something that works well."

Five years after the 2005 riots, the tension has not slackened in some areas. The unrest in Grenoble last month drove security still higher up the political agenda.

"We are suffering the consequences of 50 years of insufficiently regulated immigration which has led to a failure of integration," Sarkozy said last month.

He announced a "war on crime" and vowed to strip some foreign-born criminals of French nationality. Critics accused him of a heavy-handed vote-grabbing approach.

"All this talk of security in the banlieues handicaps the French economy," said Nabili. "There is fantastic energy in the banlieues which could help get French society out of a lot of its problems."

Nacim Ben Younes, a student from the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers, said that even Jackson's visit left him with an empty feeling.

"It is easy for us to identify with these personalities," he told AFP. "But neither Samuel Jackson nor Sylvester Stallone can provide the opportunities that young people in the banlieues are so cruelly lacking."

Jazz singer Abbey Lincoln dies

NEW YORK - Jazz singer Abbey Lincoln, whose six-decade career included acting and composing, and who participated in the civil rights movement, died in New York on Saturday at age 80, The New York Times reported, citing her brother.

The Chicago-born Lincoln, who was often said to have been strongly influenced by famed jazz singer Billie Holiday, began her singing career in the mid-1950s with "Abbey Lincoln's Affair...a Story of a Girl in Love" and performed until shortly before her death.

She also appeared in several films, including "For Love of Ivy" opposite Sidney Poitier in 1968, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, and "The Girl Can't Help It," a 1956 Jayne Mansfield vehicle about rock 'n' roll in which Lincoln sang.

During the 1960s, she was married to jazz musician Max Roach, and became a strong advocate in the civil rights campaigns of the era. They were divorced in 1970.

In the 1970s, Lincoln appeared on several hit television shows, including "All in the Family" and "Marcus Welby, M.D."

Lincoln recorded more than 20 albums, including "Abbey Sings Abbey," which was released in 2007 and featured her own compositions.

NEW YORK - Crazy diets, Jennifer Hudson doesn't do. Crazy workouts? Now, that's something she can get into.

"I have a ball. It's fun," the 28-year-old said in a recent interview. "I remember one time I had a weight loss, and that's all I did all day was work out. I'd do the workout tape, I'd run up the steps for about 20 or 30 minutes, go outside, jog around the block, go to the gym — all in one day."

Though Hudson has lost pounds recently — a drop she credits to Weight Watchers, for which she is a new spokeswoman — she hasn't had all day to exercise of late. Not only is she the mother of an almost 1-year-old son, she's working on the follow-up to her Grammy-winning debut CD, and she's also getting ready to start filming a biopic about South African activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the ex-wife of Nelson Mandela.

Hudson spoke about the her music, learning to balance career and family, and her nervousness about perfecting that South African accent.

Lindsay Lohan Used to be BFFs With Future Stepmom?!

No wonder Lindsay Lohan wants to "vomit" when she thinks about her father marrying Kate Major. Back when Kate was a Star reporter, she was also Lindsay's assistant/best friend. Kate says it's cool because she didn't get paid with money, just with exclusive stories. This family just keeps getting more messed up everyday.

Are Brad and Jen Really Hooking Up in Secret?

Angie's ex-bodyguard is claiming he helped Brad steal away for liaisons with Jen Aniston. Could he really do that without a billion paps following?
—FrankFella, via the Answer B!tch inbox

For those of you hoping to follow at home:

What we're talking about here are the allegations recently made by "Bill," a former Brangelina bodyguard and recent In Touch snitch.

According to Bill, Brad Pitt has hooked up with ex Jennifer Aniston no fewer than four times since spring 2009, always at a level of secrecy worthy of the Priory of Sion.

Sure, celebrities do have techniques for sneaking about in relative privacy, and I've got some seriously good tips from a Hollywood security big shot.

But are these methods effective enough to cloak a five-alarm hookup like that? Here are the facts:

Bill claims that Brad and Jen secretly snuggled in some trails off of Western Canyon Road in Beverly Hills on December 9. Bill also insists that Jen arrived in her Bentley, Brad on a motorcycle. The two then talked and hugged and kissed for something like 40 minutes, according to the report.

Now, when celebrities want to knock paparazzi off their trail, there are some techniques that tend to work, at least for a little while. But, according to Eric Konohia, CEO of the security firm BPI Group, those strategies usually involve a team of people and a rigid plan.

"If the celebrities are using any kind of security"—which, by the way, Brad has been known to do—"then we're usually talking about multiple vehicles, switching out cars, make it look like we're doing a departure, and then doing another last-minute switch and having the client use another door."

It's also usually de rigueur for major stars to enter and exit a location using underground parking for such shell games, because they're private property and paparazzi have a harder time getting in, Konohia explains. And when celebrities want serious privacy, you're usually talking about an indoor location, such as an office or hotel, not the open skies.

(Still, even hotel staff can't be trusted to keep secrets, Konohia points out. During a recent trip to Europe with a very high-profile star, the client managed to stay under wraps only for a few days before being forced to switch locations.)

So, given all that, where does that leave the credibility of Bill's report of two A-list stars practically making out in open nature?

"If I was betting man," Konohia declares, "I would bet it didn't happen, or that, if it did, it didn't happen in that fashion. I mean, pulling up in her own car? That car may as well have a beacon on it" when it comes to paparazzi recognition, Konohia says.

And Brad Pitt? Seriously? "Unless he's popping up out of a manhole cover, people tend to know where he is, always. Stars wear disguises and paparazzi still know who they are."

Does that mean Bill is lying? Not necessarily. It just makes his story about as likely as anything else you may read in a tabloid.

Megan Fox: 'I Have No Confidence'

Who ever would have thought that someone as stunning as Megan Fox would be dealing with insecurity on a daily basis? Fox, who seems to make it on to 'Most Sexy' lists every other day, proves that she's more than just a body in the March issue of W magazine.

Famous for her overly self-deprecating comments on red carpets, (remember when she said she looked like Alan Alda?), Fox admits that on film as well as in life, "My main weakness is nerves." The 23-year-old goes on to add, "I have no confidence, and because of that I'm always second-guessing myself. That allows you to be false, and you can't do that."

Sounding a bit like a self-help paperback, Fox warms to her theme. "You have to be honest; you gotta believe what you're about to say. So once I get through the nerves, if ever, and sometimes it does happen, that's when I'm able to have genuine moments."

With three films scheduled for release this year, including roles in the thriller "Passion Play," co-starring Bill Murray, the drama "Jonah Hex," co-starring Josh Brolin, and the animated 3D blockbuster, "Shrek Forever After" (out May 21), hopefully Fox was able to build some confidence.

Being photographed for an Armani campaign was also a character-building exercise for the sex symbol, and it seems being snapped in her underwear comes naturally to Fox. "There are some women you could put in underwear and photograph them, and it looks really classy and it doesn't necessarily provoke a pinup image. But with me it does, immediately, as soon as I'm in underwear. I'm a Vargas girl," she says, referring to the curvy women featured in ads from the 1940s.

The star shares that the Armani team "were really conscious of that on set, trying to make sure that it didn't look like we were doing a Victoria's Secret campaign or a men's magazine. They wanted it to look like fashion. Which is hard to do with me."

Fox admits that unlike some red carpet regulars, getting all dolled up isn't her favorite activity. "Being super fashion-forward and always stepping out in the latest whatever is out there, being a constant fashion plate, like a Rihanna or whoeverthat, to me, seems exhausting," says the "Transformers" star.

Often seen out in ripped jeans and simple t-shirts when not on official business, Fox still understands the power of creating a public image. "[Fashion is] part of your marketing," she says, adding, "I don't want to market myself as a high-gloss magazine cover every time I walk out of the house."

Most surprisingly in the W interview, the actress, best known for her wild-child behavior and provocative comments, reveals a maternal side. "No one believes me when I talk about this, but I'm really, really maternal," confides Fox, who has been dating "Beverly Hills 90210" actor Brian Austin Green since 2004.

Showing more maturity than the media generally gives her credit for, Fox comments, "I worry that because I've always wanted [kids] so much, as the world goes sometimes, I won't be able to have them, even though I would be able to provide them with such an amazing environment."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt jokes about break-up rumours

Brad Pitt has poked fun at rumours that he is about to break up with Angelina Jolie.

The speculation began last month when the News of the World claimed that the couple had signed a legal deal to divide their assets and arrange custody of their children.

However, the couple have denied the reports and Pitt recently joked about the rumours on a trip to a toy shop, says Radar Online.

After leaving the Toy Crazy store in Malibu, he allegedly grabbed his male friend's arm and quipped, "We're back together", before pushing him away and saying, "Now we're broken up".

Pitt then repeated the move several times in front of the waiting paparazzi.

Pitt and Jolie recently announced that they plan to sue the News of the World over its claim that they are about to split up.

Alexander McQueen found dead after reportedly hanging himself

Celebrity favourite fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead at his London home after apparently committing suicide, police sources have confirmed to Mirror.co.uk.

The London-born designer, famous for designs including 'bumster' trousers, skull-printed scarves and known as Lee to his friends, was just 40 years old.

It's reported that he hanged himself.

A spokeswoman for the designer confirmed the news, saying: "Mr McQueen was found dead this morning at his home.

"We're devastated and I hope you understand that out of respect to his family and his colleagues we're not going to be making any further statement."

A spokeswoman for his company - also called Alexander McQueen - meanwhile said: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.

"At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family. "Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."

The Metropolitan Police also confirmed the fashion star's untimely death, releasing a statement saying: "We were called by London Ambulance Service at about 10.20am this morning to reports of a man found dead at an address in Green Street, W1.

Olympics Opening Ceremony Offers a Glimpse of We Are the World 2.0

These are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving.

The start of the XXI Winter Olympics seemed an apropos occasion for a sneak peek at the 25th-anniversary rerecording of the seminal charity single "We Are the World," cowritten by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie in 1985 for USA for Africa.

This time around, the proceeds are going to help Haiti and donations can be made at WeAretheWorldFoundation.org.

Dozens of recording stars—from veterans like Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett to the comparatively prenatal Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber—came together in Los Angeles on Feb. 1 to sing, and a 7-minute video directed by Crash helmer Paul Haggis will have its global television premiere Saturday on 53 channels—including E!—at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

But NBC aired a 3-minute clip tonight, giving us a taste of the entertainment to come.

And just as the 1985 version is still a marvel to watch, with Jackson sharing space with Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan and many more, half the fun of watching this version will come from seeing the faces in the crowd (some of whom were edited in at different times, alas).

The other half will come when we find out how many millions this project makes to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

"We Are the World" 2.0 opens with tween heartthrob Bieber and the star power skyrockets from there.

Also featured in Friday's snippet were Streisand, Cyrus, Fergie, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, Céline Dion, Josh Groban, LL Cool J, Nick Jonas, Lil Wayne, Jeff Bridges, Kanye West and Wyclef Jean.

And, though he's no longer with us in life, original "We Are the World" cowriter and executive producer Micahel Jackson was featured in a clip from the original, singing alongside Janet Jackson.

In real time, Canadian artists Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado, Sarah McLachlan and k.d. lang. performed during the host-country cultural segment of the ceremony at Vancouver's BC Place Stadium.

More than 2,500 athletes from 84 nations paraded through the stadium, culminating in the Olympic flame being lit by hockey great Wayne Gretzky, NBA star Steve Nash, speed skater Catriona LeMay Doan and skier Nancy Greene.

Why Is Everybody So Hot for Gerard Butler?

Just what is it about Gerard Butler? I don't get it.....

I don't either, but that's probably because the guy kind of looks like my brother. Gives me the willies.

Anyway, I put this question both to the box office experts and my readers. You may be surprised to hear that, in part, Butler is taking over tabloid roles previously manned by two other Hollywood hunks...

...specifically, Russell Crowe and Colin Farrell. It's not so much in the punchy, fighty department, or in the baby daddy category. It's more of a general, raunchy vibe with a slightly foreign—but not too foreign—accent.

When it comes to the Crowe comparisons, there's a clear similarity there. Like Crowe, Butler burst into the American mainstream playing a shirtless fighting machine from a bygone culture, rallying other fighter dudes while covered with classical-era grime. For Crowe, the role was in Gladiator; Butler played Leonidas in 300.

"He was Leonidas. That's why I love him. I love Leonidas," Facebooker Pique S. explains to me. "And he was ripped, don't deny that while watching 300 you were a little sad that those guys only exist on celluloid!"

All that ab appeal has also translated into quite a respectable box office return for Butler.

Plenty of people still remember that breakout 300 role—particularly female audiences, says box office analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations.

Romantic comedies can be tough to make money on, especially in this economy, but when you pair Butler with a lady and call it a comedy, the cash comes rolling in.

Bock tells me that the Butler-Katherine Heigl jape The Ugly Truth cost about $38 million and brought in a domestic haul of $88 million, which is considered all kinds of terrific. P.S. I Love You cost only $30 million and made $53 million, Bock says.

"When you pair him with a woman actor, he does extremely well," Bock tells me. Oh, and look, there he is now with Jennifer Aniston in something called The Bounty Hunter.

Butler also does extremely well in the tabloid love department; hence the comparisons to Colin Farrell.

"I know he's a skank but still love him," Facebook fan Maryse B. explains. "I'd have a beer with him any day—but I may not touch him though."

By "skank," we may mean "Hollywood's playboy du jour," as Star magazine prefers to put it.

Simply put, the ladies out there love him, and Gerard keeps fans on a steady diet of amusing tales of bikini Mexico getaways, flirtations with topless dancers and street-performer make-out sessions.

Andy Dick Arrested for Sexual Abuse

At least this mug shot isn't as creepy as the last one.

Perpetually troubled funnyman Andy Dick was arrested in West Virginia Saturday morning on two felony charges of first-degree sexual abuse, the Huntington Police Department confirms to E! News.

Police are keeping the details under wraps, due to the ongoing investigation, but the comedian is expected to be arraigned early this afternoon. Dick is in West Virgina for six scheduled performances throughout the weekend at the Funny Bone Comedy Club, and according to a club rep, Saturday night's show will go on.

"He had two shows last night and dominated, he was on fire," Funny Bone manager Tom Schaefer tells E! News. "The best I've ever seen him."

Dick was reportedly celebrating his sobriety early Friday, but a source who was with the actor throughout the day says that by the end of the night, the former Celebrity Rehab castoff had fallen off the wagon.

Officers responded to a call at Rum Runners nightclub, where two victims, a bartender and clubgoer, as well as several witnesses, alleged Dick "engaged in unwanted, and uninvited groping of the two victims genital areas," according to a statement from the Huntington PD.

Dick's newest legal woes come while he's on probation for a similar crime, following a 2008 arrest for allegedly exposing himself to and groping a teenage girl.

The actor avoided jail time but was sentenced to three years' probation, a portion of which he needed to wear a SCRAM ankle bracelet to detect any drug and alcohol use.

Conan Thanks NBC, Bids Tonight Farewell

You can't keep a good man down.

Conan O'Brien didn't turn his final hour as host of the Tonight Show into a bitchfest, despite the fact that his finale came "a decade too early."

Instead, the long-limbed funnyman graciously thanked the network he's called home for two decades before he takes its money and runs far, far away from NBC, which let him test-drive the storied franchise but ultimately decided it wanted its old car enthusiast back instead.

"The terms of my settlement say that I can't host another show for seven months," O'Brien reminded his audience Friday. "So next week, look forward to the Andy Richter Show with his sidekick, me!"

There's also Oprah's offer to consider...

Oprah Winfrey is heading to L.A. to interview returning Tonight Show host Jay Leno for her Thursday show, and she has extended an offer to O'Brien to participate as well. (Better yet, put it on pay-per-view and get ready to rumble!) No word yet on whether he has accepted.

That would be something, but for now, we have to make do with the small-screen moments already behind him before another network snatches up the Emmy-winning Harvard grad for the remainder of his career.

And for once—once!—he got to be his own lead-in. NBC, which was one of the many networks broadcasting the Hope for Haiti Now benefit, opted to air an episode of Dateline at 10 p.m., rather than the Jay Leno Show.

Meaning, Conan O'Brien got to sign off on the only night of his hosting career in which he didn't have to follow Jay Leno.

"As I set off for exciting new career opportunities, I just want to make one thing clear to everyone listening out there: I will do nudity," he said during his final monologue.

(And FYI, HBO, when you make a Late Shift-style movie about the second-rockiest Tonight Show transfer in history, O'Brien would like Tilda Swinton to play him.)

He also offered up a few suggestions as to how NBC can put the $50 million studio it built for him barely a year ago to good use, including:

Site of Tiger Woods' 1st Annual Mistress Reunion
Waterpark for Max Weinberg's illegitimate children
Hair and chest oil storage for the Jersey Shore cast
Leave the studio cold and empty and rename it the "World's Largest Metaphor for NBC Programming"
Then it was on to his NBC exit interview, conducted by Steve Carell ("Would you describe your experience at NBC as positive, very positive, or extremely positive?") and a diet cream soda toast with Tom Hanks, who first called Conan "CoCo" seven months ago.

But O'Brien also had some kind words for his now former bosses at NBC, many of whom weren't in any position to wield power over him back when he was a young lad writing for SNL.

"Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we're going to go our separate ways," O'Brien said, his voice growing husky. "But this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible."

Wonder how much he got paid to say that. (We have respectfully chosen to ignore O'Brien's request that we refrain from being cynical.)

It was hard to keep the waterworks off, though, when O'Brien showed a picture of his staff and continued to expound on what hosting the Tonight Show, albeit for such a brief time, meant to him.

"Making this choice has been enormously difficult. This is the best job in the world, I absolutely love doing it, and I have the best staff and crew in the history of the medium," he said.

"But despite this sense of loss, I really feel this should be a happy moment. Every comedian dreams of hosting the Tonight Show and, for seven months, I got to. I did it my way, with people I love, and I do not regret a second. I've had more good fortune than anyone I know and if our next gig is doing a show in a 7-Eleven parking lot, we'll find a way to make it fun."

O'Brien spent the last few minutes of his abbreviated Tonight Show run jamming on guitar while a Skynyrd-channeling Will Ferrell took the lead on "Free Bird."

'Cause Conan's free as a bird now, and this bird you cannot change.

Reclusive star Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp never leaves his home.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor hates the attention he receives whenever he leaves the French property he shares with long-term partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children, Lily-Rose, 10, and Jack, seven, so shuts himself away from the "insanity" of modern life.

Johnny - who also owns a private island in the Bahamas - said: "I don't leave the house anymore. If it isn't necessary I don't go anywhere. I stay at home. I'm adamant when it comes to that. I will never get used to it. If you do, you must be insane. I'm thankful for everything, but there's a limit to what a person can endure. I don't know how Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can bear that kind of life, because personally it's an issue for me."

The intensely private actor - who only feels truly relaxed when on his island - said his life is so insular, he learns everything from his children.

The 46-year-old actor explained to Germany's Tele 5: "Because I never leave the house I live outside society. But I'm a witness of my children's lives. I see how they're doing at school and how they treat their friends. My kids are a lot smarter than me. When I watch them I learn a lot. I don't think there's anything they could learn from me."

Haiti telethon success

Madonna, Beyonce Knowles and Tom Cruise joined George Clooney in yesterday's (22.01.10) telethon to raise funds for victims of the Haiti earthquake.

The telethon - broadcast from Los Angeles, New York and London - saw more than 140 stars come together to perform and raise funds toaid relief in the Caribbean state, which has been struck by two huge earthquakes in the last two weeks, leaving hundreds of thousands dead.

George said: "This is a tragedy that reaches across all borders, all boundaries. It demands our attention, our help and our compassion.

"The Haitian people need help. They need to know that they are not alone. They need to see that we still care."

While Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Coldplay, Rihanna, Sting, Stevie Wonder and Sheryl Crow all performed, addresses were made from ex-US president Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman and Samuel L. Jackson.

Manning the telephones were some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, including director Stephen Spielberg and actors Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson, Reese Witherspoon and Penelope Cruz.

The two-hour broadcast collected money via the internet and text message as well as phone donations, and is expected to raise over $150 million.

Mel Gibson's fun fears

Mel Gibson is worried the fun has gone out of his life.

The 54-year-old actor - who has a two-month-old daughter Lucia with girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva - fears his life has got boring as he's grown older because he's tried to get healthy and been forced to stop doing some of hisfavourite things, like smoking.

He said: "I try and eat right but I don't work out much. I quit smoking so that's something in the right direction. I just don't do anything fun anymore. But that's dying, isn't it? You die in stages. You let things go in pieces. It's more than halfway through, right? Life's experiences, whether they be pleasant, unpleasant, torturous or excruciatingly wonderful and blissful, season you somehow and hopefully you learn from them. Isn't that what it's all about?"

Mel has seven children with his estranged wife Robyn Moore, and the eldest, Hannah is aged 29.

However, the actor's amazement at fatherhood hasn't changed over the years.

He explained: "I don't think I'll ever be able to get over the fact that there is a little life there in front of me staring at you with complete innocence and total angelic blamelessness. So we'll see if I can do it better this time.

"I think I'm a lot better because maturity brings things out. I just wish I had that youthful spring again. But it's a trade-off, right?"
